Casey Key 2013 part 2

I took my kids annual beach portraits Tuesday night.  It is really challenging to corral a 2 and 1 year old on the beach and have them sit, look at the camera, and not be screaming.  But they turned out really cute!

Have you ever seen anything cuter than these two holding hands and running on the beach?!

And some family photos

By the time we got to the 4 of us Andrew had had enough!

Then they got rewarded with ice cream on the beach at sunset!

Casey Key 2013

We just got back from our annual trip to the beach with my family.  Last year I put photos up in three installments (here, here, and here). This year I am going to try to get them all into two so get ready for beach baby overload!

We hit the beach first thing Monday morning.  I was surprised Emily liked the sand so much, last time she was on the beach she hated it.

They pretty much took turns dragging "Gamma" around.  Andrew wanted to be with her 24/7 for everything, swimming, eating, diaper changes, it was always "gamma's turn"

We bought Andrew a $2 kite that actually worked surprisingly well.  We flew it with him a couple times but he wasn't all that interested.

Emily has enough hair now that I can pull it up!  And she is getting 2 more teeth on the bottom, you can see them a bit in these photos.

Friday we rented a stand up paddle board.  It was really fun, I paddled way out to where some dolphins were swimming that night.  This is mostly how my dad used it :)

There's me show 'em how it's done :)

And "gamma" getting another turn swimming with Andrew :)

And papa's turn!  Andrew is pretty confident swimming in his yellow tube, he pretty much lived in it all week.

"hey Andrew, smile so mommy can take your picture"

"no show me your teeth when you smile"

"OK go stand by the water and smile"

"say baby pool"

More pictures coming, hopefully tomorrow!

We said goodbye to his "friend"!

The cast is off!  After 10 long days, Andrew's cast came off yesterday.  That thing was filthy, I can't imagine what it would be like if he had to wear it for 6 weeks!

We tried to keep it clean, but he is 2 and likes to play in the dirt, and with playdoh, and crawl around on the ground.  It was a pain to bathe him, he wore a bread bag on his arm and we told him his friend can't swim so he held his hand over his head the whole time.  Every once in a while he would forget and his little arm would drift down toward the water and we would remind him his fried can't swim and his arm would shoot back in the air.

I thought he would not be happy about it coming off, he had become a bit attached to it I think.  When we got it off they gave him some big headphones so he wouldn't be scared of the saw noise, he sat in my lap and they cut off his cast.  He actually giggled the whole time, I guess the saw tickled.  He has a small incision at the base of his thumb that is pretty much healed and he can now straighten his thumb all the way!  He gives a pretty good thumbs up!  I thought he would be dying to go swimming today since he couldn't for the past 10 days but I asked him if he wanted to go and he said "no", maybe another day!

Andrew's surgery

About 8 months ago we noticed that Andrew's left thumb wouldn't straighten all the way.  It didn't seem to bother him any but I asked the Dr about it at his last visit and she referred him to an orthopedic specialist.  Turns out he had trigger thumb and they wanted to do a release to correct it so he went in to surgery today.

We had to get there at 7:30 this morning, after a lot of waiting, looking at fish and playing with trucks, we went back to get ready.  He changed into a hospital gown and drank some nasty medicine.

The medicine first made him loopy.

Then really sleepy.

Then they took him back and Kenneth and I were sent back to the waiting room.  The surgery took about an hour an a half (but felt like 3 days) then they called us back.  I sat in a recliner and they put my sleepy boy in my arms.  Everything went well and he has to wear a cast for the next 10 days to protect his incision.  When he started waking up he saw his cast and said "a friend!".  After a little bit we got to head home (but Andrew was sure to ask the nurse for some ice cream before leaving) and we have had an afternoon of snuggling on the couch watching Caillou on TV.
