Mother's day and bats

I had a really wonderful mother's day!  Andrew made a book about me at school, he drew my picture on the front and wrote about me on the inside, and he was so excited to give it to me...I teared up a bit.  They went to the store and picked out the Disney movie "Hercules" for me and Emily got some new hair clips and said I could have half of them :)  Then we had dinner in the back yard and played some baseball and Emily and I fell asleep watching my new movie, it was perfect!

There are a couple of bat houses here in town.  I hate bats.  I have lived here for almost 13 years and have avoided going to see the bats that whole time.  BUT, Andrew and Emily wanted to see them so we went last week, then we went again last night (it's amazing the things you will do for your kids!)  And I have to admit is is actually pretty cool.  The kids really love watching them fly!  They fly out at dusk, and there are THOUSANDS of them, two huge house full and then more fly out of the woods behind the houses. 

Best buds

I took some photos of the kids last night. Andrew has been in a weird "don't take my picture" mood lately, but I think he is moving past that, thankfully!  He is way too cute to not let me photograph him!  They both had a really good time taking these photos together, I think they pretty well capture the relationship these two have right now...best buds, even if little sister is a bit annoying to her big brother sometimes!  

Emily's first hair cut

The other day when I got home from work, Emily had a big matted knot of hair in the back of her head.  I started combing it out with my fingers and her hair was coming out in clumps!  It wasn't until the next day when I was brushing it, that a large chunk of hair had been cut from the side..."Emily! Did you cut your hair?"...."yeah, yesterday"..."Why?"...."Because it kept getting in my face"..."Emily, you don't cut you hair"...."OK, sorry mom".  The hair wasn't so bad so we decided to leave it and she lost free access to scissors.

A few days later, I noticed a huge pile of her beautiful blonde curls in the trash can in her brothers room.  She saw me pulling them out of the can and ran and hid her head under a blanket.  "Did you cut your hair again?!"...."sorry, mom, sorry, mom, sorry, mom".  I couldn't tell where the damage was done this time, but decided if she wanted short hair I should probably take her to get it cut.

We are still getting conflicting stories about why she cut her hair.  She says it was getting in her face, she told the lady at the gym there was a big knot she was trying to get out, when she was getting it cut, she told the lady she wanted short hair like mommy, then asked the lady if it would turn brown when it was cut.  Emily hates her blonde hair, she is the only one in the family with blonde hair and I don't think she likes being different.  She always says "Emily and mommy have brown hair", I think she was hoping that when her hair was cut, it would turn brown like Rapunzel's hair did in Tangled.  But, nope, she is still blonde and still cute!  I did find a spot in the middle of the back of her hair where she cut about 1" long, it sticks straight out the back when I part her hair down the middle, so looks like she won't be rocking pigtails for a while!

Last day of our Georgia trip

I think our last day in Georgia was Andrew's favorite because we rode a train!  We got on the train in Blue Ridge, close to our cabin, and had an our ride to to small towns on the GA/TN border.  Then we had 2 hours for lunch and exploring and an hour back on the train.
